Several variations of this piece exist. In the standard version, some pieces had an interior carving with two leaves present, some with only one leaf.
There were 50 pieces of this edition that were lost in shipping. ABE replaced the missing pieces by casting 50 new pieces using a slightly different mold. These special "No knees" pieces were numbered separately from the standard version and were numbered 1 to 50. The "No Knees" version is listed in the Rarities section. Photographs comparing the standard version and the "No Knees" version are given below. Besides the difference in the knees, the head positions of the giraffes were a bit different in the two versions.
In 2006, the missing lot of Necks of Kin found their way back to ABE and were sold through ABE dealers.
